The 2012 Australian Open, the first of the world's four Grand Slam tennis tournaments next year, is scheduled to take place from January 16 to 29, 2012, in Melbourne at Melbourne Park.
Another highlight in Australian Open 2012 is that it is set to offer the highest prize money in the history of Grand Slam tennis.
According to the Australian Open site, the total prize pool will be $26 million, with the men’s and women’s champions taking home a record $2.3 million each.

Australian Open 2012 was officially launched at Melbourne Park on 4th October, 2011 by the Premier of Victoria, Ted Baillieu.
Roy Emerson, the record six-time champion, flew in from the United States to be part of the launch event.
Current Australian Open 2011 singles champions are Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Kim Clijsters of Belgium.
There will be a great focus on Samantha Stosur of Australia who won the 2011 US Open women's title.
