The season ending WTA Championship title played between eight of the top women tennis players in the calendar year (held from October 25th-30th) concluded last month in Istanbul. Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic won the WTA Championship 2011 title beating other finalist Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in a hard fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory.
It's been a tremendous year for 21-year-old Czech Petra Kvitova. Kvitova won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon and she topped the season off by winning the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships in Istanbul and also leading her country Czech Republic to Fed Cup glory.
The draw for the round-robin stage of the season-ending WTA Championships was made in host city Istanbul, Turkey last month on October 23rd.
The white group had Wimbledon finalist Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, French Open champion Li Na and US Open champion Samantha Stosur. While the red group had world number one Caroline Wozniacki, Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, world number two Vera Zvonareva and Agnieszka Radwanska.
