Roger Federer wins record 7th Wimbledon title

Roger Federer won a record-equalling seventh Wimbledon title and 17th Grand Slam crown on Sunday, shattering Andy Murray's dream of ending Britain's 76-year wait for an All England Club men's champion.

The Swiss maestro Federer, playing in his eighth Wimbledon final and 24th Grand Slam championship match, won 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 to join Pete Sampras and William Renshaw as a seven-time Wimbledon champion.

The Swiss maestro also regained the world number one ranking. Federer is just the third man over 30 to win Wimbledon following Rod Laver in 1969 and Arthur Ashe in 1975. Roger Federer's last grand slam title was at the 2010 Australian Open. Just when people wrote off Federer, he has come back with a big bang!!

Here are some of the pictures of the greatest player in Tennis history Roger Federer's 7th Wimbledon title victory.

"He doesn't want to stop now. He knows he's going to continue to play well and try to break seven, and he could very well end up with eight or nine Wimbledons," Sampras said in a telephone interview. "I just think he's that much better than the other guys on grass, and he loves the court the way I loved that court. He's a great champion, a classy champion, and I'm really happy for him."

I played some of my best tennis in the last couple of matches,” Federer said after raising the trophy with his wife Mirka and giggling twin daughters Charlene Riva and Myla Rose watching on from the players’ box.

I’ve missed playing in the finals, and it feels like a great moment. I’ve gone through some struggles, so this one comes at the right time,” Federer added.
